Public Service Announcement: Bad Tattoos Are on the Rise

Disclaimer:  I am sarcastic (Du-uh! Thus the blog address), and I tend to exaggerate for effect.  I'm a people-watcher; I observe, report, and add my own commentary.  Nothing I write should be used as a factual reference due to my tendency to over-exaggerate.  While I hate to admit it (and probably won't again), I do NOT know everything.  The opinions stated here are mine, and mean absolutely NOTHING to anyone else in the world but a few close friends.  If my statements offend you, I'm sorry for that but this is my blog.  I call it like I see it!  Real Talk.

I may need to seek professional counsel for my latest obsession.  It consumes me when out in public.  I find myself going to great lengths just to catch a glimpse.  I'm speechless and dumbfounded by what I see, yet I want to see more.  It's like a bad car accident.  I shudder at the gruesomeness, but I want to get all up in the Kool-Aid.

People, people, people...  Please, please, please...  Let's be a bit more discriminating about the "art" we have permanently placed on our bodies!  K?

Seriously, folks.  Not everything in life is worthy of a tattoo.  I know you love your boyfriend, but do you really need his name, birth date, and social security number stamped across your entire back?  Yes, I know you love turtles; I do too!  However, must you wear that love on your upper thigh?

Mr. #24 should be very, very, VERY afraid!

What the hell was she thinking?

Some of the most hideous tattoos I've observed were on women.  I do not understand why a beautiful woman would want to deface her beautiful body with the likes of Tweety Bird and Captain Jack Sparrow.  Don't get me wrong; I think Johnny Depp is pretty hot myself.  But after a few years of sun and weight changes, Captain Jack starts to look more like the Crypt Keeper.

Eff'n Bob Barker?  Really??

Speaking of the Crypt Keeper, he's really not a good muse.  Just say "NO" to Freddy Krueger, the Tasmanian Devil, Satan, and the Grim Reaper.  Oh, and the Insane Clown Posse.  They're just plain creepy!  One day you will have children (yes you will) who will be completely traumatized.

Do you really want this to be the last thing your son sees before going to bed???

You will also probably have a real job one day so keep your tatts on the DL.  The initials of your BFF on the back of your neck may work against you in the interview process.  You can't really sport that tarantula crawling up your leg wearing a dress.  The Man kinda frowns on skankiness, or anything that may be misconstrued for skankiness, in the work place.

I have a tattoo.  A ridiculous tattoo.  One that would definitely cause me to tank an interview.  Luckily, God was on my side that day because I got it on my hip vs. the ankle where I'd really wanted it.  Some fifteen or so years later, my Mickey looks like an old, dead rat.  I'd love to have it removed, but it serves a purpose.  It is a constant reminder of the dumb things I'm capable of doing when severely under the influence.  No AA meetings necessary!

Lord, I hope this ain't your grandma...

OMG! That grandma!! Yikes!!!! When I was young (and stupid) , I wanted a belly button ring. Then I found out that I was pregnant and hubs said a pregnant belly with a belly ring looked a bit like a trailer hitch. Enough said!

I also find myself noticing tattoos more and more these days. I don't know if it's because more people are getting them or just that I like laughing to myself. Why on earth do I see teenagers with tattoos? Can parents give permission for this or does everybody just have fake ID's? Some tattoos are absolutely beautiful and meaningful. But I with you Tibs, stop the crazy shit.

I find it hard to be shocked or offended by the way anyone flies his/her freak flag anymore.

But, I enjoy the exaggeration and I just want to know how I can avoid the venue where granny hangs out.

WOW. Grandma is disturbing. And I don't get the Bob Barker tat at all.

Though for all I know, I may be in the same category!

My friend is a labor/delivery nurse and has seen it all. What says love like a tattoo that reads, "D'Andre's Bitch"?

Hey to each their own, I love tattoos. Not all tats are like some of the rejects you have pictured here.
Kudos to Grand ma!!!!!

Sorry, but your view seems like a generalization. Yes most of the ones you have are pointless but to that person it is meaningfull. Just like the clothes you wear. Would you like it if someone made fun of the way you dressed saying it was pointless, trashy or a rip off of someone? I have alot of tattoos through a personal artist and believe it when I say artist. Sometimes demons like the one you bashed are meaningful representing a hard time in that persons life. Your view means nothing. The only view that counts is the owner of the tattoo, because to them its art.

Tattoos in general are on the rise. more than 40% of americans have them. they are a part of our freedom of expression and are not always for the "looker" they are a personal thing. UNFORTUNATELY, there is a very big lack of regulations, proper training, and ETHICS, in this industry. It is acceptance by the population and thru better training that the poor quality can be weeded out.

I like tattoos that are arty, my daughter is 17 and got one in the UK without my permission! I have 4 one of which I am waiting to get covered up. they are personal and cannot not be seen everyday - thats why i chose them in the places i did. However when I get married I don't want them on show, not because im ashamed I love my tattoos I just like having that choice! I would sooner my daughter got a piercing or tattoo than have a baby!!! She knos the rules tho, no forearms, neck, face etc done!!

to Carolyn i'm 16 years old and from the top of my knee to my toes is copletely covered (as well as the back of my leg) and it symbolizes life and the elements of life on my shin i have three symbols i have the chinese symobls for love and family and in between them i have a symbol of my religion and then the rest of it is a very detailed free hand desighn that represents the insanity of water(which is a good thing)and in the design i have hidden words and those words are morbidity jovial burden blessing and perception and altogether it means life is what you make it it could be a blessing or a burden its all how you look at it i've wanted this tattoo since i was 12 and i've finally talked my mom into it so this proves a point not all teenagers are dumb when it comes to ink and if you want to see it heres my facebook page http://www.facebook.com/TWISTEDCLOWN555
